Apple is the new Gillette

Mon Jun 28, 2010 5:32 pm

Sell the phone at material cost (does not include R&D), and make your money from the a cut of the monthly service fees (i.e. razor blades).

Smart, real smart. My Apple II+ was cutting edge for it's time, the Mac came out a few years later and they still are bringing it strong.

I have not owned an Apple in a long time, except for a few Ipods, but that Ipad I sat nxt to on the plane ride looked really nice.

GE would give you an aircraft engine for free if you let them service it...

American companies are too focused on the service instead of the manufacturing. That's why, this is the beginning of the end....

This has always been the cell phone sales model in the US. You really think a motorola razor costs less than $20 to produce?

I think we are closer to halfway to the end than the beginning of it.

Agreed. Especially since we shipped most of the manufacturing jobs to China and Mexico. All we have left to charge for is service.

Would you rather a cheap car and spend your time at the garage? Or spend a little more and hardly ever need to get it fixed?
