I think most are fine with Haoles - we pay our fair share of taxes.

We really need some fiscal reform in the Department of Eductaion here - they get half of all the money, about $13,000 per student. A teacher friend of mine says her school receives $6,000 per student to pay for teachers, principal, other admin staff and support staff, janitors, etc. I wonder where the other half goes?

p.s. California is not much better off, and in some cases much worse off than Hawaii.

When Arnold and Maria were staying at a Maui resort a couple months ago they checked out several days early as they were being heckled by other hotel guests from California.

No shit - just read the Wiki article. I heard of this form of discrimiation, but Wow.........

Cases of Discrimination
In current application, Haole can be used descriptively or as a racially derogatory word (often, if not generally, preceded by an obscene invective).

On Kill Haole Day, non-white school children[2] harass or assault white children. The origins of the day are unknown, but the tradition dates back to the 1950s.

In 1999, "School Superintendent Paul LeMahieu said he is aware of "kill haole day" but is not aware of any recent incidents." Also, in 1999, it became an issue for hate crimes legislation.

Maria's mother was on Maui visiting a home I had just completed right before she passed away last year.

The cleaning lady kept asking what her name was - this old lady kept mumbling "Kennedy", "Kennedy", "Kennedy" - and she was somewhat upset that no one recognized her.

Kids here also celebrated Dec 7th as "Slap a Jap" day until very recently (I heard of this in the late 1980's).

Hawaii has a very low incidence of violent crime in the rural areas as we all get along with each other - there is no majority race here.

The joke in Hilo is that you as as likely to be murdered by a police officer as someone else since one of the last two murders was by an off duty cop.

A friend of mine was one of the only haoles going to school in Lahainaluna (oldest school in the US west of the Rockies) in the 1970's and he was toughened up by his peers there.

We do have a multi-billion dollar trust that obtained much of it's wealth from investing in Goldman Sachs before it went public and they do operate the largest private educational system in Hawaii. Obama could not go to this school, nor can many others as they require you to prove a certain racial ancestry before you can gain admission to this private school.
