Please help me protest.

Thu Jan 20, 2011 4:47 pm

I was just banned from "liking" my union at work on Facebook because I am not a dues paying member right now.

I would love this page to have a huge influx of people (non-members) to "like" them. After a while, there's no way they can go through and delete everyone or even verify that everyone is a dues paying member!

Here's the link:

The kicker on this is that I was just about to join. I just asked my shop steward for the paperwork today, as a matter of fact. Then they do this that just doesn't make any sense. They are being total :asshat: . I can't get updates on what's going on at work? It's not like they post any sensitive material on FB! I'm going to have to re-evaluate my decision to join, but in the meantime, PLEASE go to facebook and "like" them.

You could keep it up in a second window and stare at it while you go to facebook and like the unions page on the other half of the screen.

Just sayin...

Done, unions suck! Just say'n, they were put in place to protect people now all they do is create a false ceilings for skill people and drive up labor costs.

I would suggest to save your money. I was a union member from the day I walked through the doors. I loved my job and supported the union believing it would help and support any employee when the time came. Well, when I got hurt (on the job) and couldn't work. Two surgeries later I got NO help from my fellow union brothers. I was forced to retire because of my injury, giving the union president and executive board six months notice, I would not be allowed to return to work because of my injury. They remained silent as the Board of Directors said to support me would be the right thing to do, but wouldn't. Needless to say, both the President and Vice President of the union were promoted within six months of my forced retirement. Nahhh, keep you money IMHO.

I agree BadRock....Unions SUCK....damn, had to edit my english, that damn avtar

+1.
There was a time when unions were needed. Now, with 50 million attorneys in the world, and everyone "sue happy" - not so much.

Facebook is not the place for unions to conduct members only business. They should have thier own website with a login.

There are reasons unions exist in the first place. If business owners paid thier employees a living wage and provided decent benefits there would be no need for unions. Having said that non union workers benefit from unions because they set the bar for wage/benefit packages and force non union companies to compete to keep their employees from seeking union representation.

Unfortunately there are good unions and bad unions. State laws often restrict the effectiveness of unions and how much help they can be to thier members. On the same note there are good union employees and bad union employees but this applies equally to the non union side.

I am fortunate to belong to a great union that supports its members. I've worked on both side of the fence and am thankful to be a union member.

I had a blow up with the big headed owner of the company I worked for and am out of work now. Thankfully I have been able to save money to weather the bad times.
Good luck to everybody union or not.
