Great interview with Kelly Ryan last night, looking forward to brewing Lord Marples Bitter. Anyone catch the mash temperature?

Just an FYI - I would think that the Crystal was 55L rather than 120.

Standard British Crystal is 55L.

Maybe the EBC vs. Lovibond is where the confusion is...

The wort color with 55L is 10.7 SRM

The wort color with 120L is 12.6 SRM

If he meant 120 EBC Crystal, that would be ~46L

Both are well within style for ESB... I like 120L better, so that is what I used. Bottom line: use what you like.

Here's what I came up with... he didn't say which hop variety was used when, so what I did was make a blend of all three mentioned (Wye Northdown, EKG, and Fuggle) spread out in the proportions he said (1 unit at FW, 1 unit at 30 min, and 3 units at 0... so I used .25oz each at FW and 30, .75oz at 0).

The way I get the grist % right is to enter the percents given as pounds (with the batch size set to 5 gallons by default). That gives you an OG off the charts. Then I increase the batch size in ProMash with the "Lock Ingredients to Batch Size" box checked OFF until the OG comes down to the correct gravity. Then, check that box ON and decrease to YOUR batch size.

No mash temp was given... I'd start with 155F and then play around.
