Has anyone found an inexpensive source for a breather? Or even better would be a home-made solution. My wife got me a hand pump for christmas, and the beer I want to serve on it is now ready! AND I'm gettin thirsty!

I takes 2 to 5 psi just to push the beer out through a regular tap system. Why not just use a separate regulator to run a minimal psi?

The system that was talked about last weekend was an on demand type regulator. Isn't that similar to a Scuba breathing apparatus?

This may not be the inexpensive route that you are looking for but here is the link.

Because the pump is essentially an open system and even 1 or 2psi will push beer through the pump and on to the floor. Maybe an inline shutoff would work between the pump and the cask?

Just vent your corny, and leave the release valve open as you serve. Once you have finished your drinking session seal the corny and purge it with co2. Works wonderfully as long as you consume the corny in about 3 weeks.

Alternatly you can hook up the gas line after you have vented the excess pressure but leave it closed . You will be able to serve a pint or two without needing to replemish the displaced volume inside the corny. When you do need to just let abit of co2 pass into the corny , shuting off the gas line before you presurise it.
