white residue on bottles

has anyone ever experienced a gritty white residue on thier bottles after soaking them in bleach to clean them? what the hell is going on with this?

how long did it soak... chlorine CAN etch the glass if left in there for quite awhile.

maybe a few days to week. it seems like i can wipe most of it off but it takes some major elbow grease, which definately makes cleaning the inside of the bottle worrisome!

Try rewashing with distilled vinegar then PBW... you should be fine... the vinegar should dissolve whatever deposit that is.

On the note of sanitized bottles, Has anyone ever bottled on top of Star San? I was bottling today and thought about doing it. I just didn't want to ruin my first AG batch with an unknown. I might try it next time to see what happens. If no one knows, that is.

It won't hurt a thing. There is always star san foam in my bottles, in my kegs and in my carboys when I put beer in them. You will drink more phosphoric acid in a can of Coca Cola than what you will get from the star san foam in your bottle. Just don't try making a star San beer like some brewcaster I won't mention here. :wink:

the vinegar worked! thanks, bub. i used 2 cups in about 5 gallons for a few hours.

i dont have any pbw on hand but i'm sure star san will work?
