Keg types

I have searched around the forums and on line a bit and have not been able to find what I am looking for. I picked up a couple used kegs (pin locks) at a local brew club meeting and no where on the keg does it say Firestone, Challenger, etc.

What distinguishing aspects about a keg will inform you about what make it is? I want to rebuild them, get new poppets, but each poppet is for a different make. I bought new pin posts from B3 but the thread size does not match so they have to go back to B3. Any help on how best to tell the different makes from each other would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I don't have any Pin Locks, but the Ball Locks I have are engraved with the manufacturer, safety warnings, etc. right on the tank. If it's dirty and covered with labels you may have to search, but at the very least you should have an NSF certification engraved on it, not that it would help, but it may give you a better idea of what to look for.

Also, Northern Brewer has a pretty good Keg Parts Section and can help you identify the parts from pictures, assuming they have the right ones for you.

Finally, why not post some pics of the parts you need replaced? Someone here has to have the same and can point you in the right direction.

Good luck...

Turns out they are Cornelius Kegs. The poppets were all black so the yellow colored ones from B3 or NB threw me off. But took them to my LHBS and everything else seemed to match.

Thanks!
