Anything rubber, pretty much.
    Big O-ring on hatch (1)
    Medium O-rings on posts (2)
Little O-rings on the dip tubes (2)
Teeny sealing surfaces of the poppets (2)
bottom of the pressure relief valve (1)

What is the purpose of keg lube? I have seen it, but didn't think I needed it for anything since I wasn't rebuilding kegs or anything.

It is food grade lubricant, so you can put in on anything that will end up in your mouth.

Enough of that, though, back to beer...

Even without rebuilding the keg, the big seals and the post seals especially seem to benefit from a light coat. Just makes them seal better, and the fittings don't hang up so much.

I also use it on my faucets, but don't use too much or it will wreck the head on your beer. Like Dr. Scott says, "Ask me how I know..."

It can also be used to lube up the parts inside your SCUBA regulator, or so I'm told. I actually bought mine at the dive shop rather than the brew shop.

So it's more of a luxury than a necessity I assume?

If nothing leaks, then it is a luxury.

If you get a leak on any sealing surface in your kegging system, then it is a necessity!
