Am I correct in assuming I shouldn't use the husk of the vanilla bean and that 0.25 tsp of whole clove is only five or so sticks?

Definitely use the husk and you are correct about the cloves. You scrap the pulp and seeds out just so you can expose all the good stuff to the alcohol for better extraction of flavor. You then toss everything, including the husk, into the alcohol.

I figured it would be a waste to not use the husk. I'm so pumped for this beer!!!

Thanks Bug,

Just another thank you to Bugeater for a very inspired recipe. I tweaked it up just a bit but it came out fantastic. The spiced bourbon is the best spice character Ive ever gotten out of a brew, it is the best way in my opinion to be able to dial in your spices, add to taste in the keg. Present but not obnoxious.

And I got this on tap in 2 weeks, tasting fantastic. I appreciate it Bugeater, I will continiue this method of adding spice for the rest of my days!

Cheers!
