I tried. Really, I tried. But I couldn't do it.

It poured like watery syrup and had a pungent aroma that reminded me of boiling tar. I did smell some great (strong) fruit notes and toffee, but the overwhelming pungent aroma was too much.

So then I tried a sip. Good God. It was thick and overwhelming. I couldn't even taste much as my palate was overwhelmed.

I took a few minutes and tried again. Still overpowering and syrupy.

I had to pour it out... but I did try.

Verdict: Sam Adams Triple Bock - I'll save it for the pro's... it's not for me.

Yeah, I've heard those "extreme beers" can get that way. I think the thickness has a lot to do with the fact that the beer is uncarbonated. I've heard they become something that doesn't taste at all like beer and becomes more like some spirit or wine.

Are you broken? Poured it out!?

Those beers are like good sex, they should be enjoyed by a fire on a cold night over the coarse of several hours. Warm, wet, thick and sweet!

Yep, brandy snifter material at near room temp.

I *love* that stuff.

You gotta pour just a little bit at a time and sip it. Like Sheen said, near room temp.

If you still have the rest of the bottle ship it to me.

I'm with Thirsty Mallard on this one. Granted, it was 10-12 years ago since I tried it, but I had pretty much the same reaction. Maybe my palate is different today, but there are so many other tasty things out there that I'm not planning on trying their triple bock again anytime soon. At least there will be more out there for the rest of ya!

I had that same reaction with EKU 28 about 20 years ago (didn't dump it, but man it was hard to force that down). I haven't tried any since. Gotta get some and see how much my palate has changed since those days.
