Introduction from Minnesota

Fri Sep 27, 2013 6:06 am

Hey guyyyyssss!!

Just dropping a note from Minnesota. Been a BNer since 2008 and for some reason I didn't join the forum until now. I have been quite active on other forums, but I was sitting here in my BNA5 shirt thinking I should join the BN forum also, so here I am.

Looking forward to some good conversation! :jnj

I live in Montrose, MN which is about 30 minutes west of the metro area.

Wow, it is going to take me a while to get used to this forum format as it is quite different from any other forum I have been on.

Welcome!
The biggest shock will be what you can post here compared to other sites <cough> beer advocate <cough>. However there are rules so don't invoke the wrath of Code.

What's your brewing setup and what are your favorite styles?

Hah! Never felt the need or desire to go on those forums. Way too much of a pissing match from the couple times I have perused them. I am pretty active on HBT. It will take me a while to get used to where the buttons are on this forum vs that one.

I have a pretty normal 10-20 gallon AG setup with 25 gallon kettle. Just finishing up building a mash tun out of a 150 qt cooler so I can make 10-15 gallons of any beer that I want. I used to have two large chest freezer cold storage units, but one died so I am down to one now which suits me for now. Also, 2 ranco controlled ferm fridges and lots of other goodies.

As far as styles, I have brewed quite the spectrum and have been fortunate enough to win a few awards in quite a few different styles. Took a blue ribbon this year at the Minnesota State Fair in the Belgian Strong category with a Dubbel this year, although it is under a friend of mines name as I brewed it at his house and we split the wort and he ended up entering it. Currently serving at my place right now is a session IPA, hoppy amber ale, 1.5 year old Imperial stout, Belgian Dubbel in Vinnie bottles (bottle conditioned), barleywine from last December, and a Belgian Strong Dark conditioned in Vinnie bottles.

Haven't had much time to brew this summer as I have been working on my house and getting my garage cleaned out and insulated.

Pretty much just one rule. Everything else falls under a subcategory of Brewers Code #1.

Haven't checked out HBT in a long time, but from what I remember even they're pretty strict compared to us.
